Miami Hurricanes star receiver Malachi Toney is coming off a program record-setting performance against the Pittsburgh Panthers.
In Miami's 52-23 victory, the sophomore caught a Canes' record 16 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Toney ranks first nationally with 66 receptions, third in receiving yards with 952, and third in receiving touchdowns with 11.
Teams often try to double and bracket Toney but he almost always finds a way to get open.
He's certainly caught the attention of North Carolina head coach Bill Belichick. The six time Super Bowl Winner had nothing but praise for Toney during his Monday press conference.
"I don't see any weak points in his game," said Belichick.
“He finds ways to get open even when he is double covered. That doesn’t really stop him. I mean, you would think it would but not really.”
"At his age, that's pretty impressive," Belichick added.
Toney just turned 19 in September. He should be a freshman this year, but he reclassified from the Class of 2026 to 2025 prior to last season.
Toney is the reigning ACC Receiver of the Week. His teammate, Darian Mensah, just won quarterback of the week honors.
The Hurricanes lead the nation in points per game (49) and total offense (551.9 ypg)
Belichick has schemed for plenty of top receivers during his coaching tenure. We'll see what he has in store for Malachi on Saturday.
